Platform Screen Doors Caused Service Glitches – RapidKL
RapidKL, operator of the LRT Kelana Jaya Line, today expressed its apology over yesterday’s glitches in services; resulting from failure of the platform screen doors at Kampung Baru station.
“While we would like to record our apologies over the matter, we would like to point out operations for the LRT Kelana Jaya Line continued; but on degraded mode and on manual drive along the Kampung Baru Station northbound platform.
“The manual driving is a slow process and thus, trains in other locations had to be held at platforms longer than usual. Operations at other areas were as per normal on Automatic Train Operation (ATO),” said Encik Ahmad Nizam Mohd Amin, who is RapidKL’s Chief Operating Officer for LRT Kelana Jaya Line.
In a statement issued today, Nizam said: “To enable troubleshooting works to be carried out concurrently with the service, Kampung Baru northbound platform had to be bypassed. The troubleshooting took some time as the fault is not something that can be visualized but was related to a missing vital electrical signal in the train control circuit.
“We would also like to point out that reports suggesting that there were problems on the train doors were inaccurate. The problem was with the platform screen doors at Kampung Baru station,” he added.
The incident occurred at 8.08am yesterday; prompting RapidKL to switch to manual driving mode for the affected stretch. The system went back to full ATO at 9.37am.
Trains for Kelana Jaya LRT Line operated on a driverless system; with full management through a Control Centre in Subang.
