In line with our objective to make public transport the preferred mode of transport, we are constantly upgrading and improving our service and facilities to meet commuters’ expectations.
The improvements are in the following areas:
- To expand the current rail network
- To upgrade the stations
- To improve bus ticketing system
- Convenient carparks for LRT commuters
- To embark on fleet expension to improve service frequency
- To build station integration for seamless travel
With these improvements, commuters will be able to travel to more places in the Greater KL area in comfort and ease.
- KELANA JAYA & AMPANG LINE EXTENSION PROJECTS
The proposed Kelana Jaya LRT extension line will commence from Lembah Subang – Kelana Business Centre, through Subang, USJ, Alam Megah and ending at the hub in Putra Heights. The proposed line will consist of 13 new stations and approximately 17km of guideway.
The proposed Ampang LRT extension line will commence from the present Sri Petaling station, passing through Puchong, Kinrara and ending at the hub in Putra Heights. The proposed line will consist of 13 new stations and approximately 17.7km of guideway.
All stations will have facilities such as lifts, escalators,public telephones, suraus and toilets. The stations will also be equipped with facilities for the physically disabled such as ramps, lifts, tactiles, low ticket counters and toilets.
Both lines are expected to be commissioned by end of 2013.
On November 26, 2010, Prasarana announced the appointment of contractors for the implementation of the above project as follows.

KELANA JAYA LINE

A 17 km extension of the Kelana Jaya Line from Kelana Jaya station to Putra Heights (13 new stations). This section will be divided into 2 main contract packages. Package A is from Kelana Jaya Station to Summit (Station 7) which is 9.2 km and Package B is from Station 7 to Putra Heights Station which is 7.8 km.

Both Main Contractors for Facilities are to be responsible for the following facilities works:
- All guideway sub-structure and main structure works;
- Foundation work for stations and traction power sub-stations (TPSS);
- To launch and install Segmental Box Girders (SBG); and
- To supply and install parapets and noise barriers.
In addition, within the total contract value the main contractors will also manage the nominated sub-contractors for contracts worth RM469 million (Kelana Jaya Line) and RM305 million (Ampang Line) respectively. The nominated sub-contractors, which will be appointed by Prasarana through a separate on-going open tender process, covers:
- Construction of stations and TPSS;
- Supply and Install of escalators and lifts; and
- Construction of Multi-Storey Car Parks
The selection of the contractors was done through an open tender process beginning November 2009 as follows:
- Prasarana on 3 November 2009 invited Class A contractors registered with Pusat Khidmat Kontraktor (PKK) and with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) with sufficient experience in rail transit projects, to submit their bid to qualify for the LEP Package A contracts.
- Pre-qualification documents were sold between 3 November 2009 until 4 December 2009. A total of 166 tender pre-qualification documents were purchased by interested bidders.
- At closing date on 16 December 2009, 119 applications were received with one rejected due to failure to comply with application guidelines.
- From the 118 pre-qualified contractors, Prasarana conducted extensive evaluation based on their technical capability, financial viability, track record and equipment used.
- From the pool of pre-qualified contractors, a total of 17 contractors were invited to bid for the Main Contractors (Facilities) category, while 15 companies were shortlisted for the Nominated Sub-Contractor works on the fabrication and delivery of SBG. These contractors were invited to undergo the tender process between June and July 2010.
The tender for the Facilities Works under Package B for both lines shall be called upon the approval of the final railway scheme which is expected by middle of the year 2011.
With the appointment of the Main Contractors, it is expected that work on the LEP will start as soon as possible.

- THE GREATER KL - MRT
The Greater KL MRT is a proposed 3-line 150 km Mass Rapid Transit system in the Klang Valley. A 156km long Mass Rapid Transit system will be built within 20km radius from the city center under the 10th Malaysia Plan and Economic Transformation program.
The objective of the new MRT project is to meet the needs of people to encourage increased usage of public transport and to ensure the future MRT system will contribute towards making Kuala Lumpur a world-class city through proper integration with other modes of public transport. The MRT project is also in line with the government’s target of increasing public transport use to 25 per cent by 2012 from 16 per cent now.
The system consists of three lines, each will be integrated to current rail systems in Kuala Lumpur. The first line will run through Sungai Buloh, Kota Damansara, Kuala Lumpur and Cheras (right up to Kajang). The second line will connect Sungai Buloh, Kepong, Kuala Lumpur and Serdang, while the third line will loop around Kuala Lumpur’s business district – providing a link between the monorail and LRT services.

Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit Sg Buloh - Kajang Line : Briefing to Contractors
- COVERED WALKWAY & ELEVATED PEDESTRIAN LINKAGE
There are six walkways that the projects are being undertaken by Prasarana. The construction on the elevated and covered pedestrian walkways will connect some LRT and Monorail stations (LRT) in the city. The project is part of the initiatives under the Urban Public Transport (UPT) – National Key Results Areas (NKRA) which is a joint effort between Prasarana and Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
The elevated walkway connecting the Plaza Rakyat LRT station to the Cahaya Suria building, an at-grade walkway from Hang Tuah monorail Station to the Al-Bukhary mosque, an elevated walkway from PWTC LRT Station to Hentian Putra, an at-grade and elevated walkway from PWTC LRT station to Hentian Putra, an at-grade and elevated walkway from the Sultan Ismail LRT Station to the Medan Tuanku Monorail station as well as from Jalan Sultan Ismail to Raja Laut, walkway linking Bandaraya LRT station to Menara DBKL 1 in Jalan Raja Laut and an elevated walkway at the Pasar Seni LRT Station.
The elevated walkways will be well lit with good ventilation and its safety features enhanced which would be enhanced with the deployment of Prasarana’s auxiliary police. Existing bus stops along the covered walkways will also be upgraded to match the surrounding designs. The structures for the elevated walkways are steel beams with reinforced concrete and clear solid polycarbonate as its roofing.
- STATION INTEGRATION (MASJID JAMEK, TITIWANGSA & HANG TUAH)
MASJID JAMEK LRT STATION INTEGRATION
Objectives
- To provide a common concourse for Kelana Jaya and Ampang Line Station and facilitate seamless transfer between both lines.
- To provide barrier free access for the mobility challenged (OKU)
Main Scope of Work
- Demolish and relocate the existing ticketing counter room of AMG Line station.
- Raise partly floor level of existing Concourse 1 of AMG Line station to match plaza floor level and provide facilities for passengers. (Toilets, surau, kiosks, etc.)
- Provide facilities for OKU such as link bridges (from KLJ to AMG Line), lifts, ramps and a chairlift.
- Refurbishment of existing AMG Line platform.
- Provide covered walkway from the station linking to Jalan Melaka Bus Stop (opposite Standard Chartered Bank)
- Start Date: April 2010
HANG TUAH LRT STATION INTEGRATION
Start Date: January 2010
New Features:
- Integration of paid and unpaid area of Hang Tuah LRT Station (Ampang Line) and Hang Tuah Monorail Station.
- New OKU facilities such as lifts, OKU toilets, ramps, escalators and tactiles.
- New lobby and ticketing counters at Hang Tuah LRT Station (Ampang Line)
- New kiosks and public facilities (Information counter, Touch n Go POS, etc)
- New facades and new extended roof
- New LED lighting and energy saving light fittings
- Upgrading of power supply and widening of station platform (from 3.5 meters to 8.0 meters)
TITIWANGSA LRT STATION INTEGRATION

- New waiting area, surau and ramps to OKU toilet

Plaza Rakyat LRT Station

Design Brief :
- To built proper entrance complete with roller shutter at temporary link bridge from Pudu Raya to Plaza Rakyat .
- To rearrange all the existing kiosk at concourse floor.
- To replace the floor finishes at concourse floor and platform and provide tack tiles.
- To upgrade the wall finishes and to rearrange all the billboard
- To demolish the existing ticket counter and to provide the TVM and ATM
- To provide public toilet, surau, janitor room and handicap toilet for male and female at concourse floor.

Pandan Indah LRT Station
